Functional testing

Our bodies are unique and functional testing enables us to dig down to potential root causes of symptoms such as low energy, fluctuating mood, weight gain, digestive complaints and thyroid issues. Where appropriate, I offer state of the art advanced testing so my clients achieve optimal health in a quicker and more personalised fashion. I am a qualified Nutrigenomics practitioner - using genetics to truly personalise your diet & lifestyle.

Why get tested?

Root cause

My philosophy when working with clients is to get to the root cause of the problem rather than just supporting symptoms. Fatigue, anxiety and poor skin can all be impacted by imbalances within the body. Testing helps to identify these so that nutritional and lifestyle prescriptions are targeted to achieve impact & results.

Individual

Functional testing allows me to understand your unique imbalances. My recommended protocol will be based on this. One size does not fit all and testing means a personalised programme with faster results.

Empowering

Functional testing validates your symptoms and empowers you to make the changes that you need. It provides a benchmark and motivation to optimise health and wellbeing.

Types of Functional Testing

Well woman health screen (blood draw)

This comprehensive blood screening test highlights imbalances or deficiencies that may be contributing to your symptoms. The blood screening looks at:

  • Full blood count

  • Liver health

  • Kidney health

  • Thyroid health

  • Cholesterol & Triglycerides

  • HbA1c (Diabetes marker)

  • CRP (Inflammation)

  • Key Nutrients: Vitamin D, Active B12, Ferritin, Folate, Magnesium

Hormones

Testing hormones is important when your condition and symptoms may be hormonally driven. If you have symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, overwhelm, irritability, low libido, weight gain, brain fog, temperature changes or you have a diagnosed hormonal condition such as PMS, PCOS or endometriosis then you may benefit from this state of the art urine test. The test measures:

  • STRESS hormones - Cortisol and Cortisone

  • DHEA & Testosterone - your androgen hormones and their metabolites

  • Progesterone & metabolites

  • Oestrogen, Oestrone & Oestriol - your 3 Oestrogens, plus their metabolites

  • Neurotransmitters - Dopamine, Nor-Adrenaline, Melatonin

  • Key nutrients - B12, B6, Glutathione

Genetic Testing

DNA testing is the ultimate in personalised nutrition allowing for a preventive and proactive approach to health and wellbeing. We are all genetically unique and DNA testing can highlight genetic predispositions and potential weaknesses in body function. Nutri-genomics allows for a unique gene-based nutrition plan, dietary goals for relevant nutrients and targeted nutritional supplement recommendations.

Comprehensive gut test

A stool test is useful with any kind of digestive issues (IBS, constipation, diarrhoea, indigestion, bloating, cramps) but also for symptoms that may be caused by digestive imbalances (fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, joint pain, cravings, unexplained weight gain). 70-80% of your immune system is in your gut tissue, thyroid hormone is activated there and our happy hormone is made there. We need our guts to be working effectively for optimal health. The test will look at

  • Beneficial and pathogenic bacteria

  • Inflammation markers

  • Immune system markers

  • Yeast & Fungal markers

  • Parasites & Viruses

  • Digestion & Absorption capabilities

Full Thyroid panel

Ongoing symptoms of weight gain, fatigue, constipation, low libido, anxiety, hair loss, poor nails, dry skin & high cholesterol may be suggestive of thyroid dysfunction. A full thyroid blood panel will assess

  • TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone)

  • T4 (free thyroxine)

  • T3 (free triiodothyronine)

  • Antibodies - thyroglobulin & TPO (thyroid peroxidase)

SIBO Breath Test

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) is a common clinical condition that is often the cause of unexplained abdominal symptoms. Using state of the art non-invasive breath tests which capture exhaled hydrogen and methane gases following patient ingestion of a lactulose solution enables evaluation of bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine.

SIBO is commonly associated with:

  • Irritable bowel syndrome

  • Coeliac disease

  • Rosacea

  • Weight gain

  • Constipation/Diarrhoea

  • Flatulence
